Solidarity Fast for Palestine
March 18-22
All over the country, indeed the globe, people are rising up, speaking out in solidarity with Palestine, and organizing actions. One such initiative is a five-day Solidarity Fast for Palestine organized from March 18 to March 22, “to pray for the people of Palestine and to advocate to our governing officials for the cessation of violence in their land. “
Announcements about the fast explain that, "Through the practices of prayer, advocacy, and abstinence from food, it is our desire to confront our nation’s moral conscience by advocating for the cessation of American support for the Israeli government’s violations of human life and dignity in Palestine. With support from the Episcopal Peace Network, Pax Christi USA, Friends of Sabeel North America, and the Catholic Workers, we desire to bear witness to the atrocities being committed against the Palestinian people and repent of our complicity therein. It is also our desire to pray for all of humankind, oppressor and oppressed alike, so that we may be free from all of the chains of sin and suffering which presently bind us. In fasting, we desire to turn our hearts to the will of God by forfeiting the violence, apathy, and fear that prevents us from a love that liberates and redeems all.”
