Introducing Two More New UCC PIN Steering Committee Members

Positioned from top to bottom: The Rev. Micah Bucey (upper) and The Rev. Thad Winkle (lower).

The Rev. Micah Bucey (they/them) serves as Senior Minister at Judson Memorial Church in Greenwich Village, a congregation committed to curiously seeking the intersections between expansive spirituality, radical social justice, and uncensored creative expression. At Judson, Rev. Bucey developed and continues to oversee “Judson Arts,” which has commissioned, presented, produced, and promoted the creative output of hundreds of poets, actors, playwrights, composers, musicians, dancers, choreographers, painters, photographers, sculptors, and many others, upholding the belief that artists have the potential to serve as society’s modern-day prophets. Rev. Bucey also serves as the Artistic Director for “Judson Commons,” the secular justice and arts hub housed within Judson, and spearheads Judson’s commitment to solidarity work for and with Palestine.

The Rev. Thad Winkle (he/him) is an ordained clergy person in the United Church of Christ. He has worked in a variety of settings--churches, nonprofits, jails, a prison, and a state psychiatric hospital--seeking in each to learn from and empower the most marginalized people of his communities. Thad has degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary, where he also received a certificate in Black Church Studies and an award for exceptional pastoral leadership. He was most recently the pastor of a UCC congregation in Milwaukee, WI until relocating to San Diego for his spouse’s radiology residency. He is currently the deputy director of a nonprofit doing watershed restoration and climate science education while also acting as a consultant and coach to other nonprofit organizations seeking to grow and become more effective. Thad’s wife, Dr. Aida Haddad, is the granddaughter of Aida Nassir, a Palestinian refugee forced to flee from her family’s homeland during the 1948 Nakba. Through Aida’s family, Thad has become more intimately connected to Palestine, its people, its history, and the ongoing struggle for a free Palestine.
